32 years as an Insurance Agent/ Agency Owner
Words from the Owner:
In 1980, I owned a men's clothing store called Eddy J Fashions located in the Orange Blossom Shopping Center.
In September 1980, a fire occurred in one of the rear stores that caused smoke damage to 13 stores in the shopping center.
I was called by the sheriff's department at 3 am and I was told to hurry down.
My store was directly behind the store that took fire, and received the most smoke and water damage of all;
all the merchandise was damaged and had to be replaced.
I called my insurance company that morning to file a claim.
My insurance agent informed me that we had only $50,000 in coverage rather than the expected $500,000.
The agent and I had gone over the renewal of the policy only months (June, 1980) before the coverage was increased to $500,000 but for some reason that was not the case.
IOWA National Insurance Company paid the $50,000 and in October, 1980 the company went bankrupt.
I lost ten years of my life due to the agent not doing his job.
That is why I became an insurance agent so my clients would never have to experience what I went through that September morning, 36 years ago.
